Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
Some children have special needs all of the time - all children have special needs some of the time.
Our school aims to provide a broad and balanced curriculum for all children, which is adapted to meet individual needs and abilities. We pride ourselves on being a very inclusive school, and our staff are highly trained and experienced in supporting children with a wide range of SEND.
If you have any concerns about your child's needs, or wish to know more about how children with Special Educational Needs are supported in our school, please contact our SENCo Mrs Nicholas on 01229 772731
Resourced Provision
A Resourced Provision (or RP) is a dedicated specialist support system within a mainstream school designed to help children with specific SEND access the curriculum and fully participate in school life . The primary aim is inclusion and children spend most of their time within the mainstream classroom but have access to the RP for targeted support and interventions. The emphasis is on integrating into the mainstream education as much as possible.
At St James, working in conjunction with Cumberland SEND team, we currently have 9 RP places across the primary age range with a specialism in supporting children with Autism and SEMH needs.
The criteria for a pupil to be allocated a place in the RP are determined by the Local Authority (Cumberland) and typically include having an EHCP (Education, Health and Care plan) and primary need which aligns with the specialism of the provision. Children can only be allocated an RP place by the Cumberland SEND team according to these criteria.
