2020 - 2021

Autumn Term 1

Welcome to Reception class. This half term we have enjoyed settling into our new classroom, learning new routines, exploring our new space and getting to know each other. We have enjoyed activities both outside and inside the classroom, making slime potions, building with large equipment and playing in our role play areas. We have been reading the story 'The Colour Monster' we have enjoyed exploring emotions and creating our own colour monsters and jars. We have spent lots of time exploring all areas of the classroom and learning about each other.

Anti bullying week!

We wore our odd socks, chatted about special qualities in us and our friends.

We designed our own odd socks!

Talk for Writing fun!

We always start our new literacy unit with a 'hook' to get the children excited about the new text. We had a smashed egg crime scene all over the floor when we started learning the humpty dumpty rhyme and Jack and Jill we had a hospital set up in the classroom. It was lots of fun!

We then learnt the rhymes, explored them, acted them out, created story maps, mountains, scenes. We then went on to make our own nursery rhymes. We created some very imaginative rhymes and enjoyed sharing them with our peers.

We have recently looked at the Colour monster and the Gruffalo story in the same way!

What to expect when ...

Autumn Term 2

What a busy term this has been! The children have enjoyed learning all about different nursery rhymes and creating rhyme maps to help us retell the rhyme. They have been busy creating and developing their own new rhymes. What fun it was listening to each!

In Maths we have been busy learning all about numbers up to and including 5. Counting, ordering, finding amounts, sorting their values in different ways, shapes for each value and making patterns.

This term we also had lots of fun creating our whole school nativity. We got to dress up and bring the story of the First Christmas to life. I think you will agree we all looked very cute and gave a great rendition of 'We wish you a merry Christmas!'

We also had a very exciting day where we celebrated one of the texts we had been looking at 'The Polar Express' we got to play polar express bingo, make hot chocolate, popcorn and built our own train. We ended the day receiving our ticket to board the polar express!

What a lovely fun day!

Well it is not the start to our Spring Term that we had in mind but home learning is looking very successful. The children have enjoyed exploring our topic 'Winter' at home and produced some fabulous work.

They have innovated 'We're going on a bear hunt' and below are some images to show our creations.

The children have all been very creative at home with their maths and enjoyed exploring numbers up to and including 7. They have investigated heavy, light, full, empty, nearly full and nearly empty. They have set up their own cafe's to put their work into place and made their own playdough!

Lots of exciting home learning taking place.
