Autumn 2020

What a fantastic start to Year 1! The children have been so busy after their long time away from school and have wasted no time in showing off their learning.

In Literacy we have covered the stories of 'How to Catch a Star' and 'The Owl Babies'. The children have been showing us their wonderful ideas and writing skills along the way!

In RE, the children have covered the topic of God's Wonderful World and produced some beautiful artwork to go with it. We have also looked at the Jewish festival of Hanukkah; the children had great fun finding out all about different ways of celebrating this festival!

Spring 2020

We have been having a very busy Spring Term.

In science we have been looking at our topic of ‘Everyday Materials’; the children have really enjoyed exploring the setting, looking for different materials and then having a go at describing their properties.

We have linked our science topic in with our Literacy, which has been focusing on ‘The Three Little Pigs’ as well as ‘The True Story of the Three Little Pigs’. Some of our class think that the Big, Bad Wolf wasn’t so bad after all! We have also been looking at letter writing to link in with our ‘Communication’ topic and we wrote our families and loved ones letters, which we posted to them at the Post Office!

In RE, we have been looking at the topic of ‘Family Festivals’ and ‘Following Jesus’. In these topics we have been having a go at developing our drama skills and art work as well as using our best writing to record our ideas for our books and on our classroom displays.

In Geography, we have been thinking about Our Local Community, Millom.

We have made some map paper using tea bags, drawn maps of Millom and even plotted our routes to school. Unfortunately, our field work got postponed.

Through using our problem solving skills, we have been able to spot, and correct, sneaky problems in maths.
